Screw Punch or Hammer-Driven Hole Punch?

The Nonaka screw punch uses a rotating cutting action under downward pressure. A hammer-driven punch uses a different method. The difference affects the working setup, but neither tool should be chosen without checking its intended materials and instructions.

Compare the action

If your workspace makes striking a tool inconvenient, the screw mechanism may be relevant. That does not make it suitable for every material or thickness. Read the specific model guidance and test the project material.

Compare the resulting hole

Choose a tool and cutting size that match the task. A round hole for a particular fitting has a different requirement from opening a small passage between threads. Do not use product names as a substitute for understanding the result.

Plan the support

Both the tool and work need the backing and handling their instructions require. Keep the area stable and the cutting position visible. If the tool does not work on the sample as expected, investigate rather than adding a hammer to a mechanism not designed for one.

A practical example

You need to work where hammering would be inconvenient. Compare the screw punch's intended pressing action with your material and hole requirement. The different mechanism may suit the setting, but material compatibility still has to be established.
