Sōho: A Needle Brand Within a Long-Established Sewing-Supply Business
Sōho needles and Jinbutsujirushi chalk share a company: ECHIZENYA-TAZAKI. Its official site lists both among its original sewing-supply products and records an 1865 foundation. 1. From the thread trade to a needle assortment
Eight Needles’ supplier account describes the company beginning in the thread trade. The Sōho range in our shop comprises a mixed needle wallet and separate long and short packs, alongside a Bunka × Sōho assortment. The supplier history and needle selection.
2. Open the wallet before choosing a needle
The Sōho assortment at Eight Needles contains ten types, five needles of each, arranged in labelled sections. Long and short sizes sit together so that their differences can be seen directly. The size chart rewards a closer look. In that set, No. 6 Short is listed at 31.8mm long and No. 6 Long at 39.4mm, both with a listed width of 0.75mm. Length and thickness are therefore separate things to consider; “longer” does not automatically mean “thicker”. Those are dimensions for the specified assortment, not a universal chart for every needle brand.
A longer needle gives more length to hold and to pass through the work. A shorter needle brings the hand closer to the stitch. Which feels useful depends on the cloth, thread and the sewing being done. An assortment gives you a way to compare rather than guess from a size number alone.
Try keeping a small note with a successful fabric sample: the needle number, whether it was long or short and the thread used. It makes the next choice easier and gives the labelled wallet a continuing purpose after the first packet has been opened.
3. The school collaboration
The Bunka × Sōho listing brings the needle brand together with the fashion-school name. It sits beside the standard assortment below, while the separate long and short packs keep their numbered size choices. This is the range actually carried by Eight Needles; it does not establish that every product in the parent company’s wider catalogue is made in one needle factory.
